Mount Papandayan is a complex stratovolcano, located in Garut Regency, to the southeast of the city of Bandung in West Java, Indonesia. It is about 15 kilometres to the southwest of the town of Garut. At the summit, there are four large craters which contain active fumarole fields.

⛰️ Hill spots 🌲 Forest spotsMount Papandayan, which rises to 2665m, is an active volcano in West Java. At 90 km from Bandung, this small crater has not been talked about since its eruption in 1772 which caused 2951 victims. Its fumaroles are however very hot (more than 300°C) and the variety of volcanic manifestations inside its crater make its visit very interesting.
Climbing Mount Papandayan is easy and perfectly suitable for children who can discover volcanic manifestations and a petrified forest.
To go to Papandayan you have to go to Garut. The nearest major city is Bandung which has an international airport. You can also go by road from Jakarta, but beware of the traffic jams that are legendary.
The best season is the dry season between May and November. However the volcano is open all year round.
